Immigration and Customs Enforcement Plans to Spend $38.3B to Retrofit Detention Centers
Immigration and Customs Enforcement expects to spend $38.3B to acquire warehouses and retrofit them into immigrant detention centers, Douglas MacMillan and Jonathan O'Connell of Washington Post report, citing documents ICE provided to New Hampshire's governor. ICE plans to buy and convert 16 buildings across the country to serve as regional processing centers, according to one of the documents, the Post reports. It is not clear which companies will be hired to renovate and operate the new facilities, adds the paper. CoreCivic (CXW) and GEO Group (GEO) have exposure to the immigration detention market.
