Should l Buy META?
Rosenblatt says headline news reports of a potential "Big Tobacco" moment for social media arising from lower court losses this week in New Mexico for Meta (META) and California for Meta and Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google appear likely to be legal tests that will be decided in appeals over the next couple of years. Appellate judges ruling on law and the applicability of Sec 230 protections, and potentially the Supreme Court, are "probably friendlier to the social media companies than the local juries (and local judges) that ruled against them in these opening rounds," the analyst tells investors. The firm has a Buy rating on Meta and a Neutral rating on Alphabet.

- IPO Scale Prediction: SpaceX is set to kick off its IPO roadshow on June 8, with market predictions indicating a debut valuation exceeding $2 trillion, reflecting strong investor interest in the space and AI sectors.
- Market Valuation Analysis: According to Polymarket, there is a 62% chance that SpaceX will surpass a $2 trillion market cap by the end of its first trading day, a significant increase from 45% in early April, showcasing investor optimism about its growth potential.
- Historical Lessons Caution: Despite the excitement surrounding SpaceX's IPO, historical data shows that many large IPOs have struggled post-debut, such as Facebook's 38% drop in the six months following its launch, serving as a cautionary tale for investors.
- Valuation Bubble Risk: With SpaceX's sales last year estimated between $15 billion and $16 billion, a $2 trillion valuation would imply a price-to-sales ratio exceeding 100, which historically indicates a bubble risk as no company has sustained a P/S ratio above 30 for the long term.

- Executive Attendance: Top U.S. executives, including Elon Musk of Tesla and Jensen Huang of Nvidia, attended the Beijing leadership summit aiming to rekindle business ties with China, despite ongoing political tensions.
- Limited Deal Outcomes: While President Trump mentioned a deal for 200 Boeing jets, this figure falls short of the 300 jets purchased during the 2017 visit, indicating limited tangible outcomes from the summit.
- Importance of Policy Understanding: Face-to-face meetings with Chinese officials are crucial for U.S. executives to navigate regulatory and policy hurdles, which not only aids in understanding the market environment but may also pave the way for future investment opportunities.
- Positive Atmosphere but Unclear Results: Although the summit fostered a positive atmosphere, analysts note that the lack of concrete deal outcomes may pressure Trump upon his return, potentially impacting the future trajectory of U.S.-China relations.

- IPO Valuation Target: SpaceX is aiming for a valuation of approximately $1.75 trillion in its upcoming IPO, which could position it as the largest public debut in U.S. history, reflecting the market's high expectations for its future growth.
- Market Comparison Analysis: Compared to historical IPOs like Alibaba, Visa, and Facebook, SpaceX's valuation indicates investor optimism about its growth potential, despite these companies having stronger revenue bases and clearer profit profiles at the time of their listings.
- Growth Expectation Challenges: Analysts note that SpaceX's high valuation partly reflects the premium investors are willing to pay for future growth, but this also means the company must achieve significant revenue growth while controlling cost increases to meet market expectations.
- Risk Warning: Jay Ritter, a professor at the University of Florida, cautions that while there are compelling growth narratives, companies going public at such high valuations often face numerous uncertainties, and historically, most do not meet their ambitious plans.

- AI Investment Surge: Alphabet plans to allocate $180 billion to $190 billion for AI capital expenditures in 2023, while Meta has raised its AI spending forecast to between $125 billion and $145 billion, highlighting both companies' commitment to AI technology and its potential market impact.
- Significant Sales Growth: The integration of generative AI and large language models into Google Cloud has led to a remarkable 63% increase in high-margin sales in Q1 2023, indicating that the application of AI technology is significantly enhancing company performance.
- Decline in Buybacks: Despite Alphabet and Meta repurchasing $15.1 billion and $12.8 billion of stock respectively in Q1 2025, both companies completely halted buybacks in Q1 2026, which could negatively impact the stock market, especially given that buybacks have been a strong market support.
- EPS Enhancement Potential: Over the past decade, Alphabet and Meta have repurchased nearly 13% and 12.7% of their outstanding shares, significantly boosting earnings per share (EPS); however, with increased AI capital expenditures, their future buyback capabilities may be constrained, affecting the attractiveness of their valuations to investors.

- Analysts Bullish on Meta: Among 72 analysts, Meta's median price target is $817.50, implying a 36% upside from the current price of $600, reflecting confidence in its future growth, especially as CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasizes delivering personal superintelligence to billions.
- Shopify's AI-Driven Growth: Shopify's revenue increased 34% to $3.1 billion in the first quarter, and although management's full-year guidance is conservative, expecting high-20% growth, the application of AI tools has led to an 8x year-over-year increase in AI-driven traffic and nearly 13x growth in orders, showcasing its strong potential in digital commerce.
- Optimistic Analyst Projections for Shopify: Among 53 analysts, Shopify's median price target is $150, indicating a 55% upside from the current price of $97, and while the current P/E ratio is 63, the expected 29% annual earnings growth makes it a compelling entry point for investors, particularly as it represents the most attractive opportunity in the past year.
