New Scam Detection Tools: Meta is launching new scam detection features on WhatsApp and Messenger aimed at protecting older users from online fraud, including in-conversation warnings and alerts to help identify suspicious activity.
Combatting Online Scams: The company has removed around 8 million scam accounts and over 21,000 fake customer service pages, targeting scams that exploit older adults' trust and lack of tech-savviness.
Enhanced User Warnings: WhatsApp will now provide warnings during screen sharing with unknown contacts, while Messenger is testing a system to automatically detect and alert users about suspicious messages.
Partnership for Prevention: Meta is collaborating with the National Elder Fraud Coordination Centre and other organizations to improve scam detection and prevention efforts, focusing on the vulnerabilities of older adults to emotional manipulation by scammers.
