Written by Ohris M. Greyoon, Blockchain & Crypto Expert
Largest Crypto Theft Uncovered: Blockchain analytics firm Arkham has revealed that a hack of the Chinese mining pool LuBian in December 2020 resulted in the theft of 127,426 BTC, valued at $3.5 billion at the time, making it the largest crypto theft in history, now worth approximately $14.5 billion.
Impact on LuBian and Crypto Security: The breach went unreported for over four years, leading to the shutdown of LuBian, which was once a top-ten mining pool. The theft was attributed to weak private key generation, highlighting vulnerabilities in crypto security as significant losses from hacks continue to rise in 2025.
