Magnolia Oil & Gas has become the frontrunner to acquire WildFire Energy for over $4B in what would amount to its biggest-ever acquisition, Bloomberg's David Carnevali, Ryan Gould, and David Wethe report, citing people familiar with the matter. The shale producer is slated to win the auction for the driller backed by private equity firms Warburg Pincus and Kayne Anderson, with a deal potentially to be announced in the coming weeks, the authors say.
