GlobalFoundries (GFS) has filed multiple lawsuits in the U.S. against Tower Semiconductor (TSEM) alleging that it has infringed GF patents by freeriding on decades of GF innovation with an intent to unlawfully take business away from the American chipmaker. The lawsuits were filed today in the U.S. International Trade Commission and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. The complaints allege that Tower, a competing semiconductor manufacturer, unlawfully uses GF's patented manufacturing process technologies, engaging in unlicensed exploitation of GF's R&D investments rather than undertaking the costly, long-term research required to develop these capabilities independently. The actions assert infringement of 11 GF U.S. patents protecting high-performance technologies critical to smart mobile, automotive, aerospace and communications infrastructure, and seek injunctive relief to block Tower's importation and sale of infringing products in the U.S. as well as to compensate GF for any lost profits.

Lightwave Logic announced that its high-speed modulator platform is now available as part of the GDSFactory process design kit supporting GlobalFoundries' silicon photonics manufacturing platform. Lightwave Logic and GDSFactory have collaborated to integrate Lightwave Logic's polymer-based modulator technology into the GDSFactory PDK, enabling customers to incorporate high-speed electro-optic polymer modulators directly into their photonic integrated circuit designs for tape-out on GF's silicon photonics platform. The expanded PDK and integrated design flow supports simulation, verification, and fabrication handoff within the GDS Factory environment, providing a manufacturable pathway from design to foundry execution.

USA Rare Earth announced the appointment of Dr. Thomas Caulfield to its Board of Directors, effective March 9, 2026. Dr. Caulfield currently serves as Executive Chairman of GlobalFoundries and brings decades of experience spanning engineering, executive management, and global operations at leading technology companies. Most recently, from 2018-2025, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of GlobalFoundries. Caulfield succeeds Ms. Tready A. Smith, after her five years of distinguished service on the board.
