Electrically powered air taxis will start taking to the skies in some states and cities across the U.S., including in New York, after the government approved several pilot projects under a program meant to accelerate their integration into the U.S. airspace, Bloomberg's Allyson Versprille reports. The U.S. Transportation Department said Monday that it selected eight proposals under the so-called advanced air mobility and electric vertical takeoff and landing integration pilot program. The selected projects will span more than a dozen states, the department said in a statement shared with Bloomberg. They include a partnership between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and companies Joby Aviation (JOBY), Archer Aviation (AVHR), BETA Technologies, and Electra.aero.

About JOBY
Joby Aviation, Inc. is a transportation company developing an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing air taxi. The Company is engaged in designing and testing a piloted all-electric, vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The Joby eVTOL is designed to transport a pilot and up to four passengers or an expected payload of up to 1,000 pounds at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour (mph).
