India urges clean energy agencies to finalize purchase agreements for idle power projects.
Power Ministry Directive: India's power ministry has instructed renewable energy implementation agencies (REIAs) to sign power purchase agreements directly with clean energy developers for projects lacking buyers, bypassing traditional buyer-side agreements.
Project Delays: Approximately 50 gigawatts of clean energy projects are stalled due to incomplete transmission lines and regulatory issues, leading to delays in signing purchase agreements by state power utilities.
Renewable Capacity Goals: The initiative is part of India's strategy to streamline renewable energy procurement and address project execution bottlenecks, aiming to double non-fossil fuel power capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
Stranded Projects: As of the latest data, 42 GW of the 93 GW of renewable capacity tendered since fiscal year 2024 remain without buyers, with NHPC, NTPC, SJVN, and SECI holding significant amounts of stranded projects.
