Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has not yet received approval from the Chinese government to launch its full self-driving (FSD) functions in China, as reported by China Daily. The company is reportedly seeking permission to gather more data, with data security being a significant concern among Chinese authorities.

Tesla's proposal to introduce this technology is pending authorization from several Chinese regulatory bodies. In September, Tesla announced plans to launch its FSD technology in China and Europe by the first quarter of 2025. CEO Elon Musk had anticipated obtaining Chinese regulatory clearance by the end of 2024.

FSD is an upgrade to Tesla’s existing Autopilot driver assistant, which is already available in China. The FSD package includes features like self-parking, autonomous lane changes, and navigation, and was first launched in the U.S. in 2020. However, it does not offer fully autonomous driving, as drivers are still required to remain behind the wheel and intervene when necessary.

Earlier this year, Tesla highlighted its focus on FSD and artificial intelligence as key areas for future growth, following a decline in vehicle sales. Recently, Tesla unveiled the Cybercab, an entirely autonomous vehicle, with plans to launch it by 2025. Nonetheless, the company continues to face regulatory scrutiny globally regarding its autonomous vehicle initiatives.
