Alaska Air Group Inc has recently expanded its training infrastructure by acquiring a new facility in Renton, Washington, for $85.75 million. The property, previously owned by Boeing Co, spans 19 acres and includes a 600,000-square-foot facility designed for aviation training. This strategic acquisition aims to enhance the training programs for Alaska Airlines' staff, including flight attendants, pilots, and customer service agents.

The facility, part of the historic Longacres site, is equipped with nine full-motion flight simulators, with plans to add more. Alaska Airlines intends to invest an additional $100 million in renovations to include a mock aircraft for inflight simulations, classrooms, an auditorium, a production studio, and office space. This hub is set to centralize operations and training, potentially improving efficiency and staff preparedness.

Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, at which point training for all employee groups will be conducted on-site. This move not only signifies Alaska Airlines' commitment to high-quality training and safety but also positions the airline for future growth by consolidating training resources and capabilities under one roof.
