Solana Faces Large-Scale DDoS Attack: Co-Founder Calls It 'Bullish'
DDoS Attack on Solana: Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko reported that the network is experiencing a significant distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, with traffic peaking at six terabits per second, potentially marking it as one of the largest in internet history.
Network Resilience: Despite the scale of the attack, Yakovenko noted that the network is not showing significant signs of stress, suggesting that it is handling the load effectively, which he described as a "bullish" indicator.
Historical Downtime: Solana has a history of multiple downtimes, with several incidents attributed to DDoS-like causes, including significant outages in 2020, 2021, and 2022, although the frequency of downtime has decreased in 2023 and 2024.
Comparison with Bitcoin: In contrast to Solana's downtime history, Bitcoin has maintained an uptime of over 99.99% since its inception in 2009, with only two recorded downtime incidents, highlighting the stability differences between the two networks.
