Telesat announced that Northwestel has signed a multi-year contract for Telesat Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit satellite services. Northwestel will leverage the advanced LEO network to deliver low latency, sovereign broadband connectivity to communities across Northern Canada. By leveraging the Government of Canada's Telesat Lightspeed capacity pool, Northwestel plans to provide high speed broadband, offering plans with at least 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds and unlimited monthly usage.

Telesat announced it is adding 500 MHz of military Ka-band spectrum to the initial 156 satellites in the Telesat Lightspeed constellation to meet the fast-growing global requirements of allied defence users. Mil-Ka is immediately adjacent to the commercial Ka-band spectrum used by Telesat Lightspeed, which allows the change to be made without adversely impacting schedule and with only a modest impact on program cost. The 500 MHz of Mil-Ka will replace the same amount of commercial Ka-band spectrum on the network's user link, with the gateway link being unaffected by the spectrum change.

For 2026, Telesat expects full year: GEO revenue to be between C$300M and C$320M; GEO Adjusted EBITDA to be between C$210M and C$230M, excluding non-recurring capital structure optimization costs; and Total spending on the Telesat Lightspeed project, including both expensed and capitalized costs, to be between C$1B and C$1.2B.
