Tilray (TLRY) is up 17.5% in premarket trading after President Donald Trump posted a video on social media Sunday that touts medical benefits of "hemp-derived CBD" for seniors. Trump suggested that covering CBD under Medicare would be "the most important senior health initiative of the century." The video Trump posted also features a Fox News clip describing the economic benefits of medical marijuana legalization, saying that on an annual basis it would amount to cost savings of "$64B a year if cannabis is fully integrated into the healthcare system." The video also states that "it's time to educate doctors on the endocannabinoid system, provide Medicare coverage for CBD and give millions of seniors the support they deserve." President Donald Trump is debating on reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug, Josh Dawsey of The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter. Earlier this month, Trump said he was interested in change, the sources added. Such a shift would make it easier to buy and sell pot. The U.S. House of Representatives approved an amendment enabling Department of Veterans Affairs physicians to recommend medical cannabis to patients in states where it is legal, The Marijuana Herald's Anthony Martinelli reports, citing the approval. The amendment, which is expected to get a final vote on the floor soon, stated,"None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available to the Department of Veterans Affairs in this Act may be used to enforce Veterans Health Directive 1315 as it relates to: the policy stating that 'VHA providers are prohibited from completing forms or registering Veterans for participation in a State-approved marijuana program'; the directive for the 'Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Operations and Management' to ensure that 'medical facility Directors are aware that it is VHA policy for providers to assess Veteran use of marijuana but providers are prohibited from recommending, making referrals to or completing paperwork for Veteran participation in State marijuana programs'; and the directive for the 'VA Medical Facility Director' to ensure that 'VA facility staff are aware of the following' '[t]he prohibition recommending, making referrals to or completing forms and registering Veterans for participation in State-approved marijuana programs."
