Screening Filters

1. Price: 3–100 USD

   • Purpose: Focus on reasonably priced, tradeable stocks and avoid extreme penny stocks or very high-priced names.
   • Rationale:
     • For a “jump on right now” intraday trade, stocks under ~$3 are often highly speculative, thinly traded, and easily manipulated, which can make a 5% target more like gambling than trading.
     • Extremely high-priced stocks can be harder to trade with small accounts and may have wider spreads.
     • The $3–$100 range keeps you in a segment where many retail traders operate and where the price can reasonably move 5% in a day without being a pure lottery ticket.

2. Relative Volume ≥ 1.5

   • Purpose: Find stocks trading with at least 1.5× their usual volume today.
   • Rationale:
     • A 5% move in a single day usually requires unusual activity—news, a catalyst, or strong market interest.
     • Relative volume ≥ 1.5 highlights names where today’s trading is significantly higher than normal, increasing the chance of momentum and intraday price swings large enough to hit a 5% target.

3. Monthly Average Dollar Volume ≥ 1,000,000 USD

   • Purpose: Ensure there is enough liquidity (trading value per day) to enter and exit without big slippage.
   • Rationale:
     • You want to “jump on” a stock and potentially exit the same day; that requires a market with consistent buyers and sellers.
     • Using dollar volume (price × volume) avoids names that trade many cheap shares but very little total money—those often have wide spreads and erratic fills.
     • This filter reduces the risk that you get stuck or move the price against yourself when trading.

4. Exchange: XNYS, XNAS, XASE (NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX)

   • Purpose: Limit the search to major U.S. exchanges.
   • Rationale:
     • Major exchanges have higher listing standards, better regulation, and more reliable data.
     • OTC and pink-sheet stocks often look like fast-profit candidates but come with significantly higher manipulation and liquidity risks—especially dangerous when aiming for a same-day 5% trade.
     • Staying on NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX keeps the universe more “professional-grade” and suitable for your objective.

5. One-day Rise Probability ≥ 60%

   • Purpose: Focus on stocks where a model estimates at least a 60% chance of finishing the day up.
   • Rationale:
     • You asked for a stock that could realistically make 5% profit today. That cannot be guaranteed, but we can tilt the odds by requiring a >50% model-estimated probability of a positive return.
     • This is not a standard technical indicator; it’s a probability output from a predictive model. It directly targets what you care about: likelihood of a rise today, not just “good fundamentals” over months or years.

6. One-day Predicted Return ≥ 5%

   • Purpose: Ensure the model’s expected one-day return is at least +5%.
   • Rationale:
     • This filter is explicitly aligned with your goal of “a potential 5% profit today.”
     • Again, this is a model-based estimate, not a guarantee, but it ensures we’re not looking at stocks that are only expected to move 1–2%—we’re explicitly searching for candidates with a forecasted move at or above your 5% target.

Why These Filters Match Your Request

• Your original goal was: “any one stock to jump on right now and make a potential 5% profit today.”
• The filters collectively address that by:
  • Targeting the desired move: one_day_predict_return ≥ 5 aligns directly with your 5% profit goal.
  • Improving odds (not guaranteeing): one_day_rise_prob ≥ 60 selects names with a higher estimated chance of going up today.
  • Focusing on actively moving stocks: relative_vol ≥ 1.5 finds names with unusual current activity—often where intraday moves are largest.
  • Maintaining tradability: price 3–100, monthly_average_dollar_volume ≥ 1,000,000, and major exchanges only filter out the illiquid, obscure, and highly manipulated names that might be dangerous for a same-day trade.

We cannot guarantee a 5% gain in one day—no screener can—but these filters are specifically constructed to:

• Look only at liquid, tradeable stocks, and
• Use model-based probabilities and expected returns that are directly tied to your short-term 5% target.

They do match the criteria used previously and are appropriate for re-running the screener to see if the candidate list has changed.
