“Upcoming short squeezes that are getting a lot of attention” can’t be predicted with certainty. What we can do is screen for stocks that currently show the classic early signs of a potential short squeeze:

• heavy short interest,

• elevated trading volume.

The filters below are designed exactly for that.

Screening Filters

1. short_ratio: MoreThan30Pct

   • Purpose: Find stocks with very high short interest (over 30% of float or similar high-threshold definition).

   • Purpose: Require that the stock has already moved up meaningfully in the last week (≥ +5%).

  • Positive 1‑week price change (≥5%) = price already moving against the shorts.
  • High relative volume (>1.5× normal) = stock is “getting a lot of attention” and is actively traded.

• Filters out edge cases that are less relevant or too risky:

  • Very large caps where squeezes are rare → excluded via market_cap max.
  • Tiny illiquid micro‑caps where data is unreliable → excluded via market_cap min.

• Practical approximation of “upcoming short squeeze”:
  While we can’t guarantee which names will squeeze next, these filters are a well‑accepted way to surface:

  • heavily shorted,
  • already moving up,
  • high‑volume / in‑play stocks,
    which is exactly where the highest short‑squeeze probability tends to be.
