Ivanhoe Revises 2026 Kamoa-Kakula Copper Forecast Downward Due to Flooding
Production Guidance Lowered: Ivanhoe Mines has reduced its FY 2026 copper production guidance for the Kamoa-Kakula complex to 380,000-420,000 tons, significantly below the initial target of 600,000 tons, due to ongoing recovery from flooding and seismic activity.
Future Production Expectations: For 2027, Ivanhoe anticipates an increase in production to 500,000-540,000 tons, with confidence in the mine's recovery and long-term potential, as stated by Co-chair Robert Friedland.
Analyst Outlook: BMO Capital analysts maintain a positive long-term outlook for Kamoa-Kakula, noting that the majority of the mine's value remains intact despite recent challenges, and they do not expect significant changes in valuation or reserves.
Mine's Resilience: The Kamoa-Kakula mine is recognized as one of the world's largest copper sources, and its ability to produce around 400,000 tons per year during recovery is seen as a testament to its high-quality resources.
