India sets six-month import cap on key steelmaking ingredient met coke

Import Restrictions on Metallurgical Coke: India will impose a six-month restriction on low-ash metallurgical coke imports starting January 1, 2025, to protect domestic producers from rising imports, which have increased by over 61% in the last four years.

Industry Opposition and Quotas: The government has set specific quotas for imports, allowing 713,583 tonnes per quarter primarily from Poland and Colombia, despite opposition from major steelmakers who argue it may negatively impact steel production in the country.
