Investigation into Asian Paints: India's antitrust body, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), has initiated a probe into Asian Paints following allegations from Kumar Mangalam Birla's company that it abused its dominant market position by offering incentives to dealers for exclusivity and coercing others to avoid engaging with Birla's products.
Market Impact and Response: Asian Paints, which holds a 52% market share, is reviewing the CCI's order and plans to cooperate with the investigation, while facing increased competition from Birla Opus, which has rapidly gained nearly 7% market share since its launch in February 2024.
