Formation of NUMA: Hyundai Motor Group has launched the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA), a collaborative initiative aimed at transforming urban transport through advanced mobility technologies. This public-private partnership is designed to address societal and environmental challenges by fostering inclusive mobility innovations and accelerating the transition to smart urban environments.
Membership and Inauguration: NUMA currently includes 31 member organizations, ranging from government bodies like the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to private companies such as Hyundai Motor Company and academic institutions like Seoul National University. The alliance was inaugurated at the Grand Walkerhill Seoul, marking the start of a collaborative framework that integrates government, private sector, research, and academia.
Transforming Transportation: The alliance aims to enhance local transportation systems through artificial intelligence (AI), implement autonomous mobility-as-a-service, and expand AI mobility to support smart city projects. It will also facilitate technology demonstrations, policy alignment, and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance mobility solutions.
Inclusive Mobility Prototypes: At the launch event, Hyundai showcased various prototypes aimed at inclusive mobility, including AI-driven transport solutions and vehicles designed for individuals with mobility restrictions due to disabilities, age, or social circumstances.
Addressing Transportation Challenges: Beyond NUMA, Hyundai is tackling transportation issues in underserved areas and for those with mobility difficulties through initiatives like Shucle, an AI-based demand-responsive transport platform, and the Autonomous Vehicle Foundry, which focuses on providing electric vehicles (EVs) with autonomous capabilities.
Collaboration with Battery Manufacturers: Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have strengthened their partnership with South Korean battery manufacturers LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On, concentrating on developing new safety standards for electric vehicles.
Commitment to Inclusive Mobility: Chang Song, head of Hyundai's Advanced Vehicle Platform Division, emphasized the company's dedication to realizing inclusive mobility through technology, aiming to connect communities and enhance access for individuals with limited transportation options, thereby driving a global transformation in mobility across cities.
