ASIC relaxes licensing requirements for stablecoin distributors in Australia
Written by Ohris M. Greyoon, Blockchain & Crypto Expert
ASIC Licensing Exemptions: The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has introduced licensing exemptions for intermediaries distributing stablecoins issued by licensed entities, allowing them to operate without holding their own financial licenses.
Current Applicability and Future Scope: The exemption currently applies only to the AUDM stablecoin issued by Catena Digital Pty, but ASIC may expand this as more stablecoin issuers obtain licenses; the exemption is temporary and set to expire on June 1, 2028.
